Amy Tan read law at the University of Sheffield and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors Degree in Law (Honours). She went on to complete the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) in Inns of Court School of Law, City University in London and was admitted to the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in 2007.
She thereafter chambered with Messrs Jeff Leong Poon & Wong and was admitted to the Bar in 2009. Subsequently she began her practice at TH Liew & Partners in litigation until 2010, when she switched to corporate practice. Amy has been a corporate lawyer ever since.
Amy primarily handles corporate exercises and advises listed companies on foreign and local stock exchange in listing, rights issues, private placements, acquisitions and other corporate transactions. She provides commercial legal advice to listed and private companies’ management teams and board of directors ensuring the legality of all commercial decisions and transactions, taking into consideration any commercial or legal impact a decision may have presently or in the future.
She also advises retainer clients on day to day legal issues encountered in the ordinary course of business, serving as de facto in-house counsel to company decision makers, developing the company’s policies and positions on legal issues and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
She has experience acting in domestic and cross-border transactions including acquisitions, joint ventures, foreign investments in Malaysia, etc including advising clients on starting businesses in Malaysia and overseas. She has also advised clients on power plant purchase in Indonesia, which includes negotiating on legal and commercial parts of the transaction. She also has experience in setting up trusts and charity foundations.
Amy is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Malay.
